Technical Working Groups: Overview
SOFI Members will organize into Technical Working Groups (TWGs) each with a specific research focus. The TWGs provide team Members within similar disciplines, the ability to share knowledge and develop concepts collaboratively. Current SOFI TWGs are:
The Executive Committee will determine the TWGs every 2 years at the annual meeting. Members in each TWG will elect a leader every 2 years, who is responsible for guiding the research focus of the TWG and bringing issues and opportunities to the attention of the SOFI Management. TWG leaders will engage their groups in staging collaborative events and contributing to the development and design of the Knowledge Map.

Technical Working Groups: Project Teams
Multi-disciplinary Project Teams will comprise 2 or more Technical Working Groups. Project Teams will employ a “systems integration” approach to elevating fundamental research to “translational research,” and eventually to deployable technologies. Project Teams will initially be formed on an ad hoc basis, driven by the needs of the funded Fellows and Translational Prize projects. SOFI will avoid prematurely “down-selecting” any particular technology. On-going Project Teams will be assembled by the Executive Committee and SOFI Management.
